Clarke eyes up a BMW Double Victory

Darren Clarke is already eyeing a potential BMW ‘double’ as he looks to add the BMW PGA Championship to his BMW Asian Open victory in Shanghai. Clarke will be able to enjoy the comforts of home when he tees up in The European Tour’s flagship event from May 22-25 at Wentworth Club, Surrey, England, and having once again enjoyed the sweet taste of victory, the Ulsterman’s appetite for success has been whetted. Victory at Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club was Clarke’s first success worldwide since 2005 and his first European Tour title since he won the WGC – NEC Invitational in 2003. Since then he has suffered the tragic loss of his wife Heather to cancer in 2006 and a subsequent loss of form, but Clarke has worked tirelessly to work his way back to become a European Tour champion once again. Hours spent on the range and in the gym finally paid off when the Ryder Cup player won the BMW Asian Open, and he is gearing up for more success. “If anything, my win has given me renewed vigour to carry on and keep working because I want more of this,” he said. “To put the work in and get a bit out again feels good. “BMW are one of The European Tour’s best sponsors worldwide. They sponsor the BMW Asian Open, the BMW International Open in Munich and our flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. Every event they do is among the very best we play. “The BMW PGA Championship is our flagship event and one we all want to win around a fantastic golf course. I get to stay at home that week. And a BMW double would certainly be nice.” The 2008 BMW PGA Championship will boast one of the strongest fields on The European Tour International Schedule, with many of the world’s best players in action. All four days will be broadcast live on BBC Television.
