The European Challenge Tour will now include three visits to Italy in 2008 with news that a new tournament – the €150,000 Piemonte Open in Turin from Wednesday May 14 to Saturday May 17 – will feature on the schedule. The tournament will be contested at two venues– the Royal Park Golf Club and Torino Golf Club – with the first two rounds being played over both courses while the final two rounds will be contested solely at the Royal Park GC. The Piemonte Open will be the first trip to Italy in 2008 with the remaining two completing the season; the Toscana Open Italian Federation Cup at Le Pavoniere Golf and Country Club from October 16-19, followed by the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final at San Domenico Golf from October 23-26.The timing of the Piemonte Open will mean a fortnight of top quality European golfing action in Italy in May for the tournament comes the week after the Italian Open on The European Tour is staged at the Castello di Tolscinasco Golf and Country Club in Milan. Lorenzo Silva, President of Torino Golf Club, said: “In my position as Club President, I have great pleasure in hosting the Piemonte Open which will take place from May 14-17. The Torino Golf Club staged the Italian Open in 1999 and it is a great honour that our courses were selected by the Challenge Tour and the Italian Golf Federation Organising Committee to host such an important event.” Alain de Soultrait, European Challenge Tour Director, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Piemonte Open to the European Challenge Tour and in particular acknowledge the support we have received from the Italian Golf Federation in making this tournament a reality. “We always enjoy our trips to Italy and I am sure all the players who compete will relish the challenges presented by both the Royal Park Golf Club and Torino Golf Club.”
