Leisurecorp Congratulates Vijay Singh

Leisurecorp congratulates Vijay Singh, the Water course designer at Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai’s premier residential golf community, on his outstanding win at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio. Yesterday, Vijay Singh shot a two-under par final-round 68 at the Firestone Country Club to win by a stroke from Lee Westwood and Stuart Appleby. It is his first WGC victory and in winning the $1.35 million first prize, makes the Fijian the PGA Tour’s most successful international player with a record breaking 32 PGA Tour wins. David Spencer, chief executive - golf of Jumeirah Golf Estates, said: “This is a superb win for Vijay, who triumphed over the battle of the nerves to take his 32nd PGA Tour title on the final hole and broke the record for the most victories of any international player in the history of the US PGA Tour. “Vijay Singh is a true legend and this is a hugely deserved win. This will be a great boost for him as he goes into the final major of the year at next week’s PGA Championship at Oakland Hills. “We’ve been thrilled to work with Vijay on our Water course and are looking forward to the first ever launch of Water properties which will see us unveil the Water apartments, townhouses and villas in October this year.” Vijay’s historical win follows the recent success of fellow Jumeirah Golf Estates course designer, Greg Norman. Norman’s finish in a tie for third at the 2009 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, was said by Vijay to have inspired him and given him hope for a lengthy career. Vijay Singh is behind the design of the Water course at Jumeirah Golf Estates. The course will wind through naturally vegetated dune troughs, following ribbons of wetland. The dunes themselves will be vegetated with native salt-tolerant tall grasses and sedges, for a natural look, with oasis and pond areas fringed with palm trees. This approach is unique in Dubai, and will result in a challenging, traditional course that is dramatic in both appearance and feel. From November 2009, Jumeirah Golf Estates will host the richest tournament in world golf, the US$ 10 million Dubai World Championship on the Greg Norman designed Earth course. Water is one of the four elementally themed championship golf courses – Fire, Earth, Water and Wind - at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
