Singh oversees the Earth Course

Star golfer Jeev Milkha Singh, an ambassador for Leisurecorp’s Jumeirah Golf Estates development, has been given a sneak preview of the Earth course, which will provide the stage for Dubai World Championship, the grand finale to the $10 million Race to Dubai.India’s number one golfer was full of praise for the Greg-Norman designed course, which is set to provide the ultimate test for the top 60 players on The European Tour who will be competing for an additional $10 million prize fund in the world’s richest golf tournament from November 19-22, 2009. The Dubai-based golfer has also purchased a property in the Flame Tree Ridge neighbourhood of Jumeirah Golf Estates, which is located close to The European Tour Performance Institute. The new custom-built training facility for European Tour members will give players the chance to fine tune their game throughout the year, using the latest cutting edge technology and expertise. Jeev Milkha Singh said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to see how far Earth has developed and I was impressed with the magnificent state the course is in, particularly with so much time still to go before the Dubai World Championship. “There has been a lot said about this course, but after seeing it for myself I can safely say the glowing reports have not been exaggerated. This is a spectacular golf course which will provide a stiff challenge to the world’s finest golfers and a fabulous conclusion to The Race to Dubai. I know that I will be doing all I can this season to make sure that I am one of those golfers battling it out in November.”Singh, who is the first golfer to make more than a million dollars in a single season on The Asian Tour, will look to take advantage of the first-class facilities at the Performance Institute which is due for completion later this year, ahead of the Dubai World Championship. “Jumeirah Golf Estates is a beautiful development and having world-class facilities such as these available on my doorstep is a big plus and can only help my game. The Performance Institute really looks like it has been designed first and foremost with the players in mind” he said. David Spencer, Leisurecorp CEO-Golf, said: “Jeev has been a superb ambassador for Jumeirah Golf Estates and it’s great that we were able to show him the significant progress that is being made. We are proud to be associated with such a fine role model and delighted to see him doing so well on the international stage. The way he’s playing right now I wouldn’t be surprised if he is one of the guys making a serious challenge on November 22nd!” Flame Tree Ridge will be the among the first Leisurecorp properties at Jumeirah Golf Estates to be handed over to customers later this year as plans for the Dubai World Championship continue to gather pace. “The Dubai World Championship is still several months away, but Jumeirah Golf Estates is already in great shape. It’s incredible to think that less than five years after we first conceived the project, the Earth course is now ready to play, and later this year we will be welcoming our very first residents,” added Spencer.
