Challenge Tour check out Czech Republic

The 2008 season will see the European Challenge Tour return to the Czech Republic for the €180,000 Ypsilon Golf Challenge, to be played at the Ypsilon Golf Resort Liberec, from August 21-24. The Challenge Tour was the first international golf tour to visit the Czech Republic in 1992, when Austria’s Lucien Tinkler won the Playboy Charity Challenge. With golf development gathering pace in the Czech Republic, the Challenge Tour will return in 2009 and 2010 having signed a three year agreement to stage the Ypsilon Golf Challenge. Petr Kupf, the Club President of the Ypsilon Golf Resort Liberec, said: “We are glad to be hosting the European Challenge Tour for the next three years on our golf course. “It means a lot for us, our golf club and also for the Czech golfing public. We will do our best to prepare a true test for the players on our golf course, and we hope they have an unforgettable experience of playing golf in what is a pure Czech environment.” Alain de Soultrait, Director of the European Challenge Tour, said: “The Challenge Tour is delighted to able to return to the Czech Republic and we hope that this three year deal will allow us the time and experience to play a key role in the development of golf in this great country.” The Ypsilon Golf Resort Liberec lies within the beautiful, natural surroundings near the Fojtka Dam of Liberec. Designed by Englishman, Keith Preston, the 6102 metre championship lay-out was voted ‘Golf Course of the Year 2006’ by Czech Golf Digest.
