Search for Hardy's Rookie of the Year

This season’s European Seniors Tour promises to be one of the most competitive and exciting for several years, as many of the biggest names in golf head into the season with their eyes on a prize which they can win only once – the Hardys’ Rookie of the Year Award. Those eligible to compete for the first time include the likes of Major Champions Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle, and Ian Woosnam - each of whom has recently, or will soon reach, their 50th birthday, along with European Tour champions Peter Mitchell, David Feherty and Gordon Brand Junior. This year’s intake of rookies will be hoping to dislodge the British duo of Carl Mason and Sam Torrance from their perches at the top of the Seniors Tour Rankings, the pair having dominated the Order of Merit - sharing five titles between them. Woosnam, the winning Captain at The 2006 Ryder Cup, has already confirmed his attendance at the opening event on this season’s Seniors Tour Schedule, the DGM Barbados Open from March 5-7. The Welshman, who turns 50 on March 2, 2008, will be one of the tournament favourites when he tees up at Royal Westmoreland, situated near his holiday home on the Caribbean island. Langer, also a successful Ryder Cup Captain in 2004, and double Major winner Lyle will be seen at various events across the nine month Schedule. All will be competing for this season’s Hardys’ European Seniors Tour Rookie of the Year award, which is given to the newcomer who makes the biggest impact on the Tour. The prestigious title was bestowed last year on dual Ryder Cup winner Costantino Rocca, who registered two tournament victories in his maiden Seniors Tour season, whilst in 2006 Spain’s Jose Rivero walked away with the award.
