Pairings Decided for Great Britain vs Austria

The order of play for this weekend’s Davis Cup by BNP Paribas tie between Great Britain and Austria has been decided with British No.2 Alex Bogdanovic opening proceedings at 11am on Friday against Austrian No.1 Jurgen Melzer in the first singles rubber. Their match will be followed by British No.1 Andy Murray taking on Austrian No.2 Alex Peya. Ross Hutchins and US Open mixed doubles runner-up Jamie Murray will contest Saturday’s doubles rubber, which begins at 1pm, against Melzer and Julian Knowle, ranked No.15 in the world in doubles. Sunday’s action starts at 11am and sees world No.4 Andy Murray take on world No.41 Melzer, the man he defeated in five epic sets in the third round of the US Open, followed by world No.162 Bogdanovic against world No.164 Peya in what could be the tie-decider. Andy Murray, runner-up at the US Open last week, said that he was ready to deal with whatever the Austrian team threw at him in this must-win tie. “I’m confident I’ll be able to handle the pressure,” he said “I don’t think there will be a lot of pressure on me, I treat Davis Cup matches like all my matches.”Jurgen Melzer said that he was looking forward to playing at the All England Club. “If you have to play an away tie, where is better than at Wimbledon,” he said. “This is an unbelievable venue.” British Davis Cup Captain, David Lloyd, said that his team was in good spirits in the lead-up to the tie. “They’ve practiced hard since we arrived and they are all in great form,” he said. “The boys are looking forward to playing in front of a home crowd and everyone is confident that we can win our way back into the World Group for 2009.” The victors in this weekend’s tie will secure promotion to the elite 16-team Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group while the vanquished will be relegated to Euro/Africa Zone Group One.
